Pune: SPPU Employee Arrested for Allegedly Issuing Fake B.Com Degree, Sent to Police Custody Till August 4
Pune, 30th July 2026: A 48-year-old employee of Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has been arrested by the Chaturshringi Police for allegedly preparing and issuing a fake Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com.) degree, marksheet and degree certificate in exchange for ₹70,000.
The accused, identified as Ramesh Damodar Mukhekar, was produced before a local court, which remanded him to police custody until August 4 to facilitate further investigation.
According to the police, Mukhekar works in the university’s Finance and Accounts Department and is currently posted in the Examination Department. He allegedly deceived the father of a student by claiming that his son had successfully completed a B.Com. degree. The accused is alleged to have prepared forged marksheets and a fake degree certificate, presenting them as genuine university documents. Police said he received ₹70,000 through Google Pay in return.
Investigators are now examining how and where the forged documents were created, including the devices and software allegedly used. Police suspect that the accused may have prepared similar fake educational documents for other individuals and are investigating whether more students were defrauded using the same modus operandi.
During the court proceedings, the prosecution submitted that police custody was necessary to recover the equipment allegedly used to create the forged certificates and to examine the contents of the accused’s mobile phone. Investigators also plan to obtain details of the bank account linked to the Google Pay transaction.
The prosecution further informed the court that there was a possibility the accused could influence or threaten witnesses or attempt to tamper with evidence if released. Accepting these submissions, the court remanded Mukhekar to police custody until August 4.
Police are also verifying the accused’s antecedents and investigating whether any other cases involving forged university documents are linked to him. Further investigation is underway.
