Pune: Holkarwadi Residents Write to CM Fadnavis Over Pothole-Ridden Roads, Non-Functional Streetlights

Uruli Devachi, 31st July 2026: Residents of Holkarwadi-Patil Nagar on the outskirts of Pune have appealed to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to intervene in resolving long-pending civic issues, including deteriorating internal roads and non-functional streetlights, alleging that repeated representations to the local Gram Panchayat and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) have failed to yield results.

The appeal was made through a representation submitted by Kamlesh Singh Rajput, an ex-serviceman, on behalf of residents of the locality.

According to the representation, the internal roads in Holkarwadi have remained in poor condition for an extended period, with potholes, uneven surfaces and inadequate drainage making commuting difficult, particularly during the monsoon. The complainants alleged that the damaged roads pose safety risks to pedestrians and motorists, hinder emergency services and adversely affect local businesses and agricultural activities.

The residents claimed that despite several verbal and written complaints to the Gram Panchayat and the PMC over the past year, no substantial action has been taken to repair the roads.

The representation also highlighted the issue of non-functional streetlights. Although electric poles have been installed in the locality, the lights have reportedly remained non-operational for several months, leaving stretches of the area in darkness during the night.

According to the complainants, the lack of street lighting has raised concerns over the safety of women returning home after work and increased the risk of accidents and petty crimes.

The residents have urged the State government to direct the concerned departments to conduct an immediate site inspection, repair the damaged internal roads, restore street lighting and improve civic infrastructure in the area. They have also requested that a complaint tracking number be issued and the matter be addressed on priority before further damage occurs during the ongoing monsoon season.

In the representation, Rajput said the residents approached the State government only after repeated follow-ups with local authorities failed to produce a satisfactory resolution. He expressed hope that the intervention of the Chief Minister’s Office would help expedite the pending civic works.
