Pune: Kondhwa Police Book 62-Year-Old for Allegedly Running Clinic Without Statutory Medical Registration

Pune, 31st July 2026: The Kondhwa Police have booked a 62-year-old man for allegedly practising medicine without the mandatory registration under any recognised statutory medical council after a Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) inquiry found him providing treatment at a clinic in Kondhwa.

The accused, Keshav Dara Wadia, a resident of Kukreja Park on Kondhwa Road, has been charged under Sections 33(1) and 33(2) of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, 1961. A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on July 27, and the investigation is in progress.

The case stems from a complaint lodged by the PMC’s Health Department following an inspection carried out by an inquiry committee on June 23, 2026, at a clinic operating from the ground floor of Kukreja Park in Tulsinagar, Kondhwa Road.

During the inspection, Wadia reportedly told the committee that he practised electro-homeopathy and possessed a Diploma in Electro-Homeopathy System of Medicine (D.E.H.M.S.). He also informed officials that he offered treatments including acupressure, chiropractic care, spinal therapy, holistic healing and other alternative therapies.

Officials inspected the clinic and scrutinised patient records. Although they did not find any allopathic medicines, injections or pharmaceutical drugs at the premises, the inquiry concluded that the practitioner was allegedly treating patients without being registered with any recognised statutory medical council.

According to the complaint, subsequent verification revealed that Wadia was not registered with the Maharashtra Medical Council, Maharashtra Council of Indian Medicine, Maharashtra Homoeopathic Council or the Maharashtra State Dental Council.

Based on these findings, the PMC recommended legal action under the provisions of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act, following which the Kondhwa Police registered the case.

Senior Police Inspector Santosh Khetmalas of Kondhwa Police Station said investigators are recording statements of the accused as well as officials associated with the inquiry.

“The accused is a senior citizen and has not been arrested. The investigation is aimed at determining whether he violated the provisions of the Maharashtra Medical Practitioners Act by providing medical treatment without the required statutory registration,” the officer said.

Police said further legal action will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
