Pune MBBS Student Missing Since July 20; Family Alleges Ragging, College Denies Claim

Pune, 31st July 2026: A first-year MBBS student of BJ Government Medical College has been missing since July 20, prompting a police investigation. The student’s family has alleged that he was subjected to ragging, although the college administration says its internal inquiry found no evidence to support the claim.

The missing student has been identified as Tanmay Vange, a native of Kolhapur.

According to his parents, Tanmay has been untraceable since leaving the college hostel on July 18. They said he had informed his friends that he was going to meet a friend in Kharadi before later telling them he would visit relatives. His whereabouts have remained unknown since then.

Concerned over his disappearance, his parents filed a missing person complaint with the Kharadi Police. They have also alleged that Tanmay was subjected to ragging by fellow first-year students and brought the matter to the attention of the college authorities.

Responding to the allegations, BJ Government Medical College Dean Dr. Eknath Pawar said an anti-ragging committee was constituted after receiving the complaint from the student’s parents. According to him, the committee conducted an inquiry but found no evidence to substantiate the allegations of ragging.

Dr. Pawar said the college has also informed the police about the student’s disappearance and is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

Police are continuing efforts to trace Tanmay, while the circumstances surrounding his disappearance remain under investigation. Authorities have appealed to anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the police.
