Pune: Firefighters Rescue Newborn, Mother from Flooded Home on Sinhagad Road

Pune, 1st August 2026: Firefighters on Friday rescued a newborn baby and its mother from a flood-hit residential building in Ektanagar on Sinhagad Road, as rising floodwaters inundated the area following increased discharge from the Khadakwasla dam.

With waist-deep muddy water surrounding the building, the mother and her newborn, just a few days old, were stranded inside their home as water levels continued to rise. After receiving the alert, personnel from the Pune Fire Brigade rushed to the spot with an inflatable rescue boat.

The rescuers first helped the mother into the boat before carefully lifting the infant into safety. Cradling the newborn securely in his arms throughout the rescue, one firefighter carried the baby through the floodwaters and brought both mother and child to safety.

The rescue came as several housing societies, including those in the Dwarka and Jal Vihar areas along Sinhagad Road, were inundated after water was released from the dam. Residents present at the scene heaved a sigh of relief as the mother and baby were rescued unharmed.
