Pimpri, 1st August 2026: A 50-year-old man died, while his wife and 19-year-old daughter remain in critical condition after they were allegedly exposed to poisonous fumes inside their rented apartment in the Morwadi area of Pimpri on Saturday morning.

According to police, the family was found unconscious inside their second-floor flat and was immediately shifted to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital. Doctors declared the man dead on arrival, while his wife and daughter are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

Senior Police Inspector Suhas Awhad of Sant Tukaramnagar Police Station said preliminary findings indicate that the family may have inhaled toxic fumes generated from coal mixed with a chemical substance. Investigators suspect the act may have been an attempt to end their lives, although the exact cause will be confirmed only after forensic examination.

During the investigation, police recovered a handwritten note from the apartment. A similar message was also found on the deceased’s mobile phone. The contents of the note reportedly suggest that the family had been facing severe financial difficulties.

Police said the family had been living in the rented flat for the past two years. The deceased had reportedly lost his job at a private engineering company around one-and-a-half years ago and had remained unemployed since then, placing the family under significant financial stress.

Forensic teams have collected samples from the scene for scientific analysis. Police have also informed the family’s relatives and are continuing their investigation to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.

Further investigation is underway.
