Pune Autorickshaw Fares to Increase from September 1; Minimum Fare Raised to Rs 30

Pune, 4th August 2026: Commuters in Pune district will have to pay more for autorickshaw travel from September 1, after the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) approved a revision in fares on Monday.

Under the revised fare structure, the minimum fare for the first 1.5 kilometres will increase from ₹25 to ₹30, while the rate for every additional kilometre will rise from ₹17 to ₹20. The new rates were approved during an RTA meeting chaired by the Pune District Collector.

Officials said the fare revision was considered following repeated representations from autorickshaw unions, which cited rising operational expenses, particularly the increase in compressed natural gas (CNG) prices. According to transport officials, CNG rates have increased from around ₹91 per kg in August 2022 to nearly ₹96 per kg at present.

An RTO official said the revised fares have been calculated in accordance with the recommendations of the Khatua Committee. With CNG currently priced at around ₹95.75 per kg, the authority found merit in the operators’ demand for a fare revision. Officials maintained that the increase is unlikely to place a substantial financial burden on daily commuters.

The previous autorickshaw fare revision in Pune came into effect in August 2022.

Meters to Be Recalibrated
To implement the new fare structure, the Regional Transport Office (RTO) has directed all autorickshaw owners to recalibrate their fare meters. Operators will have six months from September 1 to complete the recalibration process.

During the transition period, drivers must keep an official fare chart in their vehicles indicating the revised fares based on distance travelled. Officials said the charts are intended to help passengers calculate fares accurately and minimise disputes until all meters are updated.
