Pune: NCP MLC Vikram Kakade Seeks Posthumous Padma Vibhushan for Former Deputy CM Ajit Pawar
Pune, 4th August 2026: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Vikram Kakade has urged the Central Government to confer the Padma Vibhushan posthumously on former Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, citing his significant contribution to the state’s development over the past four decades.
Kakade submitted a memorandum to Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a meeting in New Delhi, requesting the Centre to consider the proposal sympathetically.
According to the memorandum, Ajit Pawar made an exceptional contribution to Maharashtra while serving in various public offices, including as an MLA, MP and Deputy Chief Minister. It stated that he played a key role in several important departments, including Finance and Planning, Water Conservation, Energy, Rural Development and Agriculture, helping shape the state’s development agenda.

The memorandum further said that under Ajit Pawar’s leadership, several public welfare initiatives and infrastructure projects were implemented across both rural and urban Maharashtra. It highlighted his administrative vision, quick decision-making ability and commitment to public service, which earned him widespread respect and support among the people.
Kakade appealed to the Central Government to honour Ajit Pawar’s lifelong contribution by conferring the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. He requested Amit Shah to give the proposal due consideration and formally submitted the memorandum during the meeting.
Ajit Pawar passed away in a tragic plane crash in January this year. His death was widely mourned across Maharashtra, where he was known as a hardworking administrator and a straightforward political leader.
