Yuva Sena Demands Cancellation of Fee Hikes Approved for 1,272 Maharashtra Professional Colleges

Pune, 5th August 2026: Yuva Sena has urged the Maharashtra Governor and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to revoke the fee hikes approved for 1,272 unaided professional colleges, alleging that the Fee Regulating Authority (FRA) granted the approvals in violation of statutory provisions.

According to Yuva Sena, the Maharashtra Unaided Private Professional Educational Institutions (Regulation of Admissions and Fees) Act requires the FRA to decide on fee proposals before March 31, ahead of the commencement of the academic year. However, the organisation alleged that the authority held 26 meetings between April 27 and July 27, 2026, during which it approved revised fee structures for colleges offering medical, engineering, pharmacy, management and MCA courses.

Yuva Sena alleged that accepting fee proposals after the statutory deadline and approving fee structures for up to three academic years through a single decision were contrary to the provisions of the Act.

The organisation further claimed that the approvals were granted without the mandatory scrutiny process, alleging that the required scrutiny cell, expert committees and infrastructure verification mechanisms were not in place.

According to Yuva Sena, the fee revisions would impose a substantial financial burden on lakhs of students and their families across Maharashtra. It also argued that higher tuition fees would increase the state’s expenditure on scholarship schemes, placing an additional burden on the public exchequer.

Alleging that the approvals involved significant financial interests, Yuva Sena demanded that the state government cancel all fee hike approvals granted after the March 31 deadline.

“We have submitted documentary evidence to the government showing that the FRA approved the fee hikes in violation of the law. The state government should immediately revoke these approvals. Failing that, we will pursue legal action and launch a statewide agitation,” said Yuva Sena leader Kalpesh Yadav.
