Purandar Airport: 92.5% Land Acquired, Farmers Get Final Extension Till August 16

Pune, 5th August 2026: The Pune district administration has extended the deadline for farmers to submit consent agreements for land acquisition for the proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport in Purandar from July 31 to August 16. After the revised deadline, the remaining land will be acquired through compulsory acquisition, District Collector Jitendra Dudi said.

The proposed greenfield airport requires the acquisition of 1,216 hectares of land across seven villages in Purandar taluka. According to the district administration, consent agreements have already been executed for 1,125 hectares, accounting for nearly 92.5% of the total land required for the project.

The remaining 75 hectares are linked to issues pending before the High Court. Although July 31 was originally fixed as the last date for executing consent agreements, the administration has granted what it described as a final extension until August 16.

Collector Dudi said landowners who fail to execute consent agreements by the revised deadline will face compulsory land acquisition proceedings. He added that those whose land is acquired compulsorily will not be eligible for benefits available under the consent-based acquisition process, including a developed plot equivalent to 10% of the acquired land area.

The district administration has also made significant progress in disbursing compensation. Of the land acquired through consent agreements, compensation for 630 hectares, representing about 52% of the acquired area, has already been directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts.

According to officials, the Maharashtra government has so far released ₹2,600 crore to the district administration towards land acquisition compensation. An additional ₹3,150 crore is expected to be released to complete the compensation process.

Officials said the administration is also counselling farmers on the prudent investment of compensation amounts to help ensure their long-term financial security. According to the district administration, several landowners have already benefited from the initiative.

The proposed Chhatrapati Sambhaji Raje International Airport is expected to serve as Pune’s second international airport and is considered a key infrastructure project aimed at meeting the region’s growing aviation and connectivity needs.
