Pune Mayor Claims City Has Fewer Potholes Than Last Year; Standing Committee Chief Admits Road Crisis

Pune, 6th August 2026: Even as Pune residents continue to grapple with pothole-ridden roads during the ongoing monsoon, Mayor Manjusha Nagpure has claimed that the city has fewer potholes this year compared to last year.
Responding to questions on the city’s deteriorating road conditions during a press conference, Nagpure said that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has been filling potholes as and when they emerge during the monsoon.
“There are fewer potholes this year than last year. Wherever potholes have developed, the administration is carrying out pothole-filling and road repair works,” she said.
The Mayor’s remarks come at a time when several roads across Pune have developed large potholes, leading to traffic disruptions, vehicle damage and inconvenience to commuters.
Meanwhile, Standing Committee Chairman Shrinath Bhimale acknowledged that the city has a significant number of potholes and directed civic officials to take immediate action instead of waiting for public complaints.
“Officials and engineers should proactively inspect roads and carry out pothole repairs on a war footing. We have noticed that potholes are reappearing at locations where repairs were recently carried out, indicating poor quality of work. Ensure that citizens do not suffer due to substandard road repairs,” Bhimale instructed the civic administration.
PMC Launches Year-Long Women’s Health Campaign
The Pune Municipal Corporation will launch a citywide Maha Arogya Abhiyan to provide health screening for women from economically weaker and working-class sections of society.
The campaign will be inaugurated by Minister of State Madhuri Misal at Dandekar Bridge on Friday, August 7, at 10.30 am.
Under the initiative, women will undergo comprehensive health check-ups and those requiring medical intervention will be provided further treatment and assistance. Beneficiaries will also undergo follow-up health examinations after three months to monitor their health status.
The campaign will be conducted throughout the year across different parts of the city with the participation of ASHA workers, women from self-help groups, nurses from the health department and private medical practitioners.
Mayor Manjusha Nagpure said the civic body aims to cover around 75,000 women under the initiative over the next year.
