Hours-Long Wait for CNG in Pune: Petrol Dealers Escalate Crisis to Centre

Pune, 7th August 2026: The Petrol Dealers Association, Pune (PDA) has sought an urgent meeting with Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri over the prolonged low-pressure and inadequate CNG supply in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, saying the crisis has disrupted fuel availability for more than a month.

The association has urged the Centre to intervene immediately, stating that repeated efforts at the local level have failed to resolve the issue. According to the PDA, long queues have become a daily occurrence at CNG stations, while some outlets have been forced to temporarily suspend operations due to inadequate gas supply.

The association said it has submitted multiple written representations to Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) and held meetings with senior officials to address the issue. It also raised the matter on several occasions with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). However, it alleged that no concrete relief has been provided to fuel station operators or motorists.

In its latest communication to MNGL, the association demanded immediate corrective measures along with a time-bound action plan to restore normal CNG supply. It further alleged that the company has not responded to the letter, leading to growing dissatisfaction among petrol pump operators and vehicle owners.

With CNG pressure remaining significantly low, refuelling has become a time-consuming process, forcing autorickshaw, taxi and private vehicle owners to wait for hours at fuel stations. The prolonged queues have also contributed to traffic congestion on major roads across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The association said that with local-level efforts failing to produce results, it is now seeking the intervention of the Union Petroleum Ministry to ensure an early resolution of the CNG supply crisis.
