Pune: Deputy Mayor Pushes for Reopening of All 13 Swimming Pools in Pimpri Chinchwad

Pimpri Chinchwad, 7th August 2026: Senior citizens in Pimpri Chinchwad have demanded the immediate reopening of all 13 municipal swimming pools in the city and submitted a memorandum to Deputy Mayor Sharmila Babar seeking urgent action.

Taking note of the demand, Babar accompanied a delegation of senior citizens to meet Additional Municipal Commissioner Kuldeep Jangam and urged the civic administration to reopen the swimming pools at the earliest.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Patil, along with senior citizens Kailas Tapkir, Dr Chandrakant Chaudhari, Shivaji Aadhav, Pramod Shahane, Rajendra Potdar, Anil Pawar and Shantilal Mapari, were present during the meeting.

All swimming pools operated by the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) are currently closed, causing inconvenience to senior citizens, swimmers and sports enthusiasts. The delegation pointed out that swimming is an important form of exercise and health activity, particularly for the elderly, and requested that the facilities be made operational without delay.

The delegation also noted that the Pavana Dam has reached 100% storage capacity and the city’s water supply situation has stabilised, creating favourable conditions for reopening the swimming pools.

Responding to the representation, Babar requested Additional Commissioner Jangam to restore operations at all 13 swimming pools. Jangam immediately took cognisance of the request and directed Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Patil to initiate the process of reopening all the civic swimming pools on priority.

The administration’s positive response is expected to bring relief to senior citizens, swimmers and sports enthusiasts across the city. The delegation also urged the civic body to complete all necessary formalities at the earliest so that the facilities can be reopened for public use.
