Four Youths from Pune Killed in Satara Road Accident While on Way to Mahabaleshwar

Satara/Pune, 11th August 2026: Four youths from Pune district were killed and two others injured after the SUV they were travelling in met with an accident on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway (NH48) near Shirwal in Satara district early Tuesday, police said. The six friends were on their way to Mahabaleshwar for a picnic.

The accident took place around 1.10 am near Hotel Shivalay in Shirwal, in Khandala tehsil. According to the highway police, the SUV first hit the road divider, overturned and crossed into the opposite lane, where it was struck by a moving truck.

The deceased have been identified as Vedant Arjun Waringe (19), a resident of Talegaon Dabhade; Sonling Dhirendra Thakur (19), Aditya Balasaheb Garud (19) and Nikhil Balu Raut (20), all residents of Kamshet and Takwe in Maval taluka of Pune district.

The two injured persons have been identified as Dixit Dayanand Pujari (20) and Mayur Hanumant Shinde (20), both residents of Kamshet. They were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police said their condition was stable.

Assistant Police Inspector Khamgal of Shirwal police station said the relatives of the deceased had reached the spot and informed the police that the group had left around midnight for Mahabaleshwar.

“The injured are stable and their relatives are planning to shift them for further treatment. The relatives of the deceased have arrived. They told us that the youths had left around midnight for a picnic in Mahabaleshwar. The deceased were friends studying in a college,” Khamgal said.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances that led to the SUV hitting the divider and entering the opposite lane.
