Pune Fish, Meat and Chicken Prices Remain Stable; Egg Rates Rise

Pune, 31st August 2026: Prices of fish, mutton and chicken remained largely stable in Pune’s markets compared to the previous week, while the prices of English eggs increased by Rs 25 to Rs 30 per hundred.

Fish from India’s eastern and western coastlines is currently arriving at the Ganesh Peth wholesale fish market. However, with the Shravan month underway, demand for fish, chicken, mutton and eggs has remained subdued. Traders are accordingly procuring stocks based on market demand, resulting in a balance between supply and consumption and keeping prices stable.

On Sunday, August 30, the Ganesh Peth wholesale market received around 5 to 10 tonnes of deep-sea fish. Arrivals of creek fish and freshwater fish were estimated at around 100 to 200 kg each. Additionally, approximately 5 to 10 tonnes of Rohu, Catla and Seelan fish arrived from Andhra Pradesh.

Deep-Sea Fish Prices

Among deep-sea varieties, Kapri Pomfret was priced between Rs 1,600 and Rs 1,800 per kg, while large Pomfret sold for Rs 1,400 to Rs 1,500 per kg. Medium-sized Pomfret was priced at Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 per kg.

Surmai was available at Rs 700 to Rs 900 per kg, while Rawas and Ghol were priced between Rs 800 and Rs 900 per kg. Halwa was selling for Rs 800 to Rs 900 per kg, Bhila for Rs 500 to Rs 600, and fresh Bombay Duck (Bombil) for Rs 200 to Rs 300 per kg.

Other varieties included Karli at Rs 300 to Rs 350 per kg, Bhing at Rs 300 to Rs 400, Pala at Rs 800 to Rs 1,200 and Vam at Rs 600 to Rs 800 per kg.

Prawns and Other Seafood

Small prawns were priced between Rs 250 and Rs 350 per kg, while large prawns were selling for Rs 350 to Rs 450. Jumbo prawns commanded prices of Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,200 per kg, while King Prawns were priced between Rs 600 and Rs 700.

Lobster prices ranged from Rs 1,500 to Rs 1,800 per kg. Mori was selling at Rs 300 to Rs 400, Mandeli at Rs 200 to Rs 250, Rani Masa at Rs 250 to Rs 300 and crabs at Rs 300 to Rs 350 per kg. Chimborya were priced between Rs 500 and Rs 600 per kg.

Creek and Freshwater Fish

Among creek fish, Soundale and Khapi were priced between Rs 250 and Rs 300 per kg, while Tamboshi was selling for Rs 400 to Rs 500. Bangda was available at Rs 200 to Rs 300 per kg, while Lepa was priced between Rs 300 and Rs 500.

Freshwater fish prices included Rohu at Rs 150 to Rs 180 per kg and Catla at Rs 180 to Rs 250 per kg. Maral was selling for Rs 300 to Rs 350, Shivda for Rs 200 to Rs 220 and Khawali for Rs 180 to Rs 220 per kg.

Meat and Poultry Prices

Mutton prices remained steady, with goat meat and other varieties selling at around Rs 800 per kg. Keema was also priced at Rs 800 per kg, while liver was selling for Rs 840 per kg.

Chicken was priced at Rs 200 per kg, while leg pieces were selling for Rs 250 per kg. Live chicken was available at Rs 140 per kg, and boneless chicken was priced at Rs 300 per kg.

Egg Prices Increase

While prices of fish and meat remained stable, English egg prices witnessed an increase of Rs 25 to Rs 30 per hundred.

Country eggs were priced at Rs 1,100 per hundred, Rs 140 per dozen and Rs 12 per piece. English eggs were selling at Rs 550 per hundred and Rs 84 per dozen.

Market traders said the overall prices are currently being driven by moderate demand and a balanced supply, with no significant fluctuations expected unless there is a major change in arrivals or consumer demand.
