Pune: Resident Approaches Police After Bee Attack During Beehive Removal in Dhankawadi, Alleges Negligence
Pune, 31st August 2026: A 41-year-old resident was injured after being attacked by honeybees during the removal of beehives at a residential society in Dhankawadi, with a complaint alleging that the hives were removed without adequate safety precautions or informing residents.
The incident took place at Meghdoot Tower, where honeybee hives had formed in the restaurant area of the building. According to the complaint lodged by the resident at Sahakarnagar police station, Ashok Nelekar, Kalindi Nelekar and two unidentified persons allegedly undertook the removal work.
The complaint states that four minor children and two other persons were called to assist in removing the hives. However, residents of the society were allegedly not informed in advance about the operation or the potential risk.
Smoke was reportedly used to drive away the bees during the removal process, which allegedly agitated the swarm. The bees then attacked the complainant, leaving him injured.
Police have registered a case against Ashok Nelekar, Kalindi Nelekar and two unidentified persons based on the complaint. The complainant has alleged that the hives were removed in a negligent manner and without taking necessary precautions, posing a potential risk to residents.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the hive removal and the alleged negligence.
