Pune Inner Ring Road: 735 Hectares to Be Acquired, First Phase Gets Rs 44 Crore

Pune, 3rd September 2026: Land acquisition for the proposed 83-km Pune Inner Ring Road has gained momentum, with the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) sanctioning funds for the first phase and finalising compensation rates.

The project, aimed at easing traffic congestion in Pune and surrounding areas, will require the acquisition of around 735 hectares of land. The first phase of the acquisition process is now set to begin.

However, residents of East Haveli have raised concerns over the implementation of the project, particularly in the absence of a Development Plan (DP) for areas under the PMRDA.

Residents said there is still uncertainty over the exact alignment of the Inner Ring Road, whether the proposed alignment could be altered and what land reservations may be created along the road.

The proposed Inner Ring Road will pass through multiple jurisdictions. Of the total 83-km stretch, 39.22 km will pass through 21 villages under the PMRDA, while 39.27 km will pass through 21 villages under the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Another 4.63 km will pass through the Uruli Kanchan and Fursungi municipal council areas in East Haveli.

Residents have demanded that the PMRDA prepare the development plan for villages along the proposed Inner Ring Road before proceeding with land acquisition. They fear that the absence of a clear DP could result in changes to planning and create difficulties during the implementation of the project.
Landowners face uncertainty
The absence of a development plan has also created uncertainty among landowners and developers in the affected areas.

Residents seeking to construct houses, buildings or commercial establishments are reportedly facing difficulties in obtaining permissions due to the lack of clarity over future road alignments and land reservations.

Residents have urged the PMRDA to clarify the proposed alignment and complete the development plan process at the earliest to reduce uncertainty among affected landowners.

₹44 crore sanctioned for first phase
Land acquisition under the first phase will be carried out in Solu village in Khed taluka and Vadgaon Shinde and Nirgudi villages in Haveli taluka.
The PMRDA has transferred ₹44 crore to the Pune district administration towards compensation for land acquisition in the first phase. The compensation rates have been finalised, and the acquisition process will be undertaken through the office of the Deputy Collector (Land Acquisition No. 26).

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the PMRDA and PMC to accord priority to the Inner Ring Road project and expedite its implementation.
