Pune: Youth Injured in Accidental Firing From Country-Made Pistol in Dhankawadi, Case Registered

Pune, 3rd September 2026: A youth sustained a gunshot injury after a country-made pistol allegedly went off accidentally in the Ambegaon Pathar area of Dhankawadi early Tuesday, police said.

The Bharati Vidyapeeth police have arrested one person in connection with the incident and registered a case against another on suspicion. The injured youth has been identified as Sunny alias Sandeep Subhash Deepak, who is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

Police said they have arrested Gorakh Chore and recovered a country-made pistol from him. A case has also been registered against Chore’s companion as part of the investigation.

According to police, the incident took place around 12.30 am on September 1 near Sai Siddhi Chowk on Ambegaon Pathar. Chore, Sunny and another man had stopped at the spot when Sunny allegedly took the pistol from Chore.

While handling the weapon, Sunny accidentally pressed the trigger, causing it to fire. The bullet struck him, leaving him injured, police said.

The police were alerted after the shooting and reached the spot. Doctors treating Sunny subsequently informed the police about the circumstances surrounding his injury.

Police are investigating how the group came into possession of the illegally manufactured firearm and the circumstances in which it was being carried. Further investigation is underway.
