Lakhs of Devotees Expected in Pune: Police Reveal Major Ganeshotsav 2026 Security and Traffic Plan

Pune, 9th September 2026: Ahead of the upcoming Ganeshotsav celebrations, senior administrative and police officials conducted a comprehensive joint inspection tour of central Pune on Wednesday to review infrastructure, crowd management, women’s safety, healthcare arrangements, and law-and-order preparedness.

The inspection was carried out in the presence of Kasba constituency MLA Hemant Rasne, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, heads of various civic and administrative departments, and representatives of prominent Ganesh mandals.

Speaking to the media following the inspection, Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar outlined the comprehensive security, traffic, and civic measures undertaken to handle the influx of lakhs of devotees into the city’s core areas.

Preparations to Be Fully Completed by September 12
Commissioner Kumar said the joint team reviewed on-ground readiness, public facilities, and pending civic work.

“Most preparations are on track. A few issues and suggestions brought forward by local representatives and citizens will be addressed on a war footing over the next two to three days. By September 12, all arrangements across the central peth areas will be 100% complete and fully geared up for the festival,” Kumar said.

He noted that engagement programs are actively underway at the police chowki, police station, and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) levels to maintain seamless coordination with Ganesh mandals.

Traffic Blueprint: Commercial Vehicles Restricted After 11 AM
To manage heavy footfalls and avoid gridlock in congested central corridors, Pune Police have formulated a synchronized traffic circulation plan:

Circulation Routes: Coordinated pedestrian and vehicular routes have been mapped out to facilitate smooth movement for devotees walking on foot, road commuters, and those arriving via the Pune Metro.

Commercial Vehicle Ban: To ease peak-hour congestion, entry of commercial and goods-carrying vehicles into central festival areas will be restricted after 11:00 AM during the festival days. An official regulatory notification will be issued shortly.

Zero Tolerance for Noise Violations; Ban on ‘Pressure-Mid’ Devices
Addressing the contentious issue of high-decibel sound systems, Kumar emphasized that High Court directives on noise pollution will be enforced strictly without exception.

“During the all-party meeting held on August 22, representatives of Ganesh mandals and stakeholders unanimously agreed to comply with noise regulations. There will be an absolute ban on plasma and ‘pressure-mid’ sound systems,” Kumar stated.

Highlighting enforcement during the recent Dahi Handi festivities, he noted that voluntary compliance had increased significantly, but reiterated that any deviation from prescribed decibel limits during Ganeshotsav will invite immediate and 100% legal action against offenders.

Stern Warning Against Inflammatory and Divisive Statements
Responding to questions regarding provocative public remarks during festival gatherings, the Commissioner issued an unequivocal warning:
“Everyone enjoys freedom of speech, but it must be exercised strictly within the limits prescribed by the law and the Constitution. If anyone makes irresponsible statements aimed at inciting communal tension or disturbing public peace and order, Pune Police will step in and initiate strict legal prosecution,” he asserted.

24/7 Surveillance Through Robust CCTV Network
Emphasizing technological surveillance, Kumar highlighted that a dense network of CCTV cameras has been established across the city through collaborative funding from the state government, civic body, public representatives, and local communities. He mentioned that around 1,000 public-partnered CCTV cameras were recently commissioned in Zone 3 alone, and the integrated network will be deployed for round-the-clock surveillance throughout the ten-day festival.
