Nashik Kumbh 2027: Neighbouring Districts Asked to Submit Traffic, Parking and Emergency Plans
Nashik, 9th September 2026: The Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Kumbh Mela Authority (NTKMA) has sought detailed preparedness data from neighbouring districts in Maharashtra, as well as Valsad and Dang districts in Gujarat, ahead of the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Simhastha Maha Kumbh 2027.
The information was sought during a review meeting held at the Divisional Commissioner’s Office in Nashik. The concerned districts and agencies have been directed to submit the required information within 15 days to facilitate advance planning and inter-district coordination for the expected large-scale movement of pilgrims.
The data will be used to prepare a consolidated regional plan covering pilgrim movement, traffic management, parking, public transport, emergency response and public facilities on routes leading to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar.
The neighbouring districts have been asked to provide district-wise maps of approach routes to Nashik and Trimbakeshwar, along with details of identified parking and vehicle-holding areas, their ownership, internal layouts and estimated capacity in Equivalent Car Spaces (ECS).
Information has also been sought on bus terminals, Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) depots, railway stations and staging and holding areas, including their capacity and available facilities.
For traffic management, agencies have been asked to submit details of proposed traffic diversion and emergency evacuation routes, including diversion triggers, route lengths, vehicle suitability, police deployment requirements, critical junctions and accident-prone locations. Route maps, along with GIS/KML data and route-wise traffic regulation plans, will also be part of the submissions.
Police and traffic agencies will provide location-wise requirements for traffic control and diversion points, parking and holding areas, police personnel, Home Guards and volunteers, temporary check posts, CCTV installations and barricading. The information will help authorities plan deployments in advance.
The exercise will also cover healthcare and emergency-response arrangements. Districts have been asked to provide details of hospitals and other health facilities, ambulance points, emergency-response locations, available beds and ambulances, emergency control-room contacts and medical nodal officers along major Kumbh routes.
Authorities have also sought assessments of drinking water, sanitation, lighting and other public-facility requirements at transit locations, parking areas and holding points.
Sanitation-related information will include route-wise estimates of pilgrim movement, identified transit and parking locations, portable toilet facilities, waste-bin requirements, waste-management arrangements, manpower deployment and information, education and communication (IEC) plans.
The NTKMA has further sought updated information on disaster-management resources, nodal officers, District Emergency Operations Centres (DEOCs), critical facilities and KML-based data to strengthen emergency coordination between districts.
The preparedness exercise will also include updated district disaster-management plans and emergency and evacuation plans for important religious and tourist locations.
The NTKMA will consolidate the information received from the respective districts and agencies to support data-driven regional planning, particularly for peak pilgrim days, traffic diversions, vehicle holding, emergency situations and the movement of pilgrims before they enter the core Nashik-Trimbakeshwar area.
