MPSC Aspirant Dies by Suicide in Pune; Financial Distress and Debt Suspected
Pune, 9th September 2026: A 28-year-old man preparing for competitive examinations allegedly died by suicide at his rented accommodation in Pune on Wednesday morning. The deceased has been identified as Prathamesh Dilip Deshmukh, a native of Khasapuri in Paranda taluka of Dharashiv district.
According to preliminary information provided by the police, Deshmukh was found hanging inside the bedroom of his rented accommodation in the Shaniwar Peth/Navi Peth area. Police officials said he had been living in Pune for the past few years and had been preparing for the UPSC and MPSC examinations.
Preliminary inquiry suggests that Deshmukh was facing financial difficulties and was reportedly under a debt of around ₹2.5 lakh. Police are investigating whether financial distress and difficulties related to his examination preparation contributed to the incident.
A note was also reportedly recovered from the scene. According to police information, the note contains details of people from whom Deshmukh had borrowed money and the amounts involved. Police are examining the note and questioning his family members and acquaintances to ascertain the circumstances that led to the incident.
Deshmukh’s father had passed away, while his mother lives in their native village. He has four married sisters. Police said he had reportedly been considering returning to his village after facing difficulties in clearing the preliminary examinations.
A forensic team visited the spot and collected necessary evidence. The body has been sent for medical examination, and the exact cause and circumstances of death will be established after the post-mortem and further investigation.
Police said no complaint or suspicion regarding the involvement of another person has emerged during the preliminary inquiry. Further investigation is underway.
