Pune: Chakan MIDC Roads Get Major Push; 80% Work Completed on Key Six-Lane Road

Pune, 11th September 2026: Road and other infrastructure development works in the Chakan industrial area are being expedited to address growing traffic congestion and improve traffic management.

According to the district administration, most of the planned road development works have commenced, with several projects either completed or progressing.

A meeting of the Chakan MIDC Infrastructure Committee was held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi to review infrastructure and traffic-related issues in the industrial area.

The meeting reviewed road development, traffic management, parking facilities, drainage, power supply, road dividers and beautification works.
MP Dr Amol Kolhe, MLAs Babaji Kale and Shankar Mandekar, Resident Deputy Collector Jyoti Kadam, and officials from MIDC, the Public Works Department (PWD), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation, Mahavitaran and Jeevan Pradhikaran attended the meeting.

Representatives of industrial associations and villagers were also present.

Roads Under Different Agencies Reviewed

The meeting reviewed roads under different authorities in the Chakan industrial area, including 25 km of MIDC roads, 12.8 km of National Highway roads, 22 km under the Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation and 17.5 km under PMRDA.
The administration stressed the need for coordination among the agencies concerned to expedite infrastructure works and avoid delays.

Key Road Projects Underway

The 5.50-km cement-concreting work on the 75-metre-wide main road in Phase II of the Chakan industrial area has been completed.
In Phase IV, work on a 4.03-km six-lane road is underway. The project includes cement concreting, repairs to footpaths on both sides, installation of concrete road dividers and beautification works. Around 80 per cent of the work has been completed, officials said.

Cement-concreting work on 14.65 km of main roads in Phases I and II is also progressing. Work is also underway on the 5.70-km road from Alandi Phata (Spicer Chowk) to the Volkswagen-Skoda facility in Phase III and the 4.40-km four-lane main road in Phase V.

Additional Measures to Ease Traffic

To help manage traffic congestion in the Chakan industrial area, the MIDC headquarters has approved a proposal to deploy 45 MSF personnel. The police department has been informed about the decision.

The MIDC has also approved the provision of a crane and 50 wheel clamps to the traffic police to assist in traffic management. Further action in this regard has been initiated.

The administration has also taken action to close unauthorised openings made in road dividers at various locations along the National Highway. Measures are being implemented to regulate traffic and improve road safety.

Parking Facility Operational; Permanent Drainage Planned

Parking facilities in the industrial area have become operational, and vehicles are being directed to designated parking areas. Work on road-side shoulders is also being carried out on a priority basis.

Collector Jitendra Dudi directed officials to establish a permanent drainage system at locations prone to waterlogging. A consultant agency will be involved in planning the drainage infrastructure.

Dudi instructed officials to ensure that the drainage system provides a long-term solution and remains effective during the monsoon instead of relying only on temporary measures.

Power Supply Capacity to Be Increased

A transformer required by Mahavitaran has been made available at the designated location, and construction work for its installation is underway. Around 25 per cent of the work has been completed so far, with the remaining work expected to be completed soon.

According to Mahavitaran officials, the facility will provide power availability exceeding the capacity currently required by the MIDC area.

Road Divider Maintenance and Beautification

Dudi directed officials to prepare a regular inspection and maintenance plan for road dividers in the industrial area.

He also called for comprehensive planning for the area’s development, including urban landscaping and beautification, while taking into consideration the overall development requirements of the industrial zone.

During the meeting, MP Dr Amol Kolhe and MLA Babaji Kale raised various issues concerning the industrial area and put forward suggestions.
Dudi said the administration would coordinate with the concerned agencies and take necessary action on the issues raised.
