100-Foot Saffron Flag Planned At Sinhagad Fort; Pune Mayor Inspects Proposed Site

Pune, 11th September 2026: A 100-foot saffron flag is set to be installed at the historic Sinhagad Fort, a site associated with the history of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the Maratha Empire.
The initiative has been proposed by Pune Mayor Manjusha Nagpure under the banner of Pune Pratham. The proposed flag is expected to become a prominent feature of the Sinhagad landscape.
As part of the planning, officials on Friday inspected approximately one acre of land near the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) premises in the Sinhagad area. The site is being considered for installation of the flag.
According to the administration, the location is being planned so that the flag can be visible from different parts of the fort as well as from distant areas around Sinhagad.
During the inspection, Nagpure sought details from officials regarding the proposed site, the height of the flagpole, safety arrangements, structural requirements and other aspects related to the surrounding area.
Plans are also being considered for specialised lighting so that the flag remains prominently visible after sunset.
Sinhagad is associated with several important episodes in the history of the Maratha Empire and the military campaigns of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Speaking about the initiative, Nagpure said the proposed flag would serve as a symbol of Maharashtra’s historical heritage, the ideals of Swarajya and the state’s martial tradition.
The administration will undertake further action after completing the required administrative, technical and structural formalities for the project.
Pune Municipal Corporation’s Chief Engineer of the Electrical Department Manisha Shekatkar, MTDC Chief Regional Manager Hanumant Khede and other officials and employees were present during the site inspection.
