Pune: 5-Year-Old Girl Dies After Garbage Vehicle Runs Over Her in Nigdi
Pimpri Chinchwad, 14th September 2026: A five-year-old girl died after she was run over by a garbage collection vehicle in Nigdi on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place around 12.10 pm in front of Audumber Society in Sainathnagar, Nigdi. According to preliminary information, a garbage collection vehicle (MH-14-HG-7123), which had gone to the area to collect garbage, collided with a two-wheeler parked on the roadside.
The impact caused the two-wheeler to hit five-year-old Sanskriti Bhagwat Biradar, a resident of Audumber Society, Yamunanagar, Nigdi. She was knocked under the garbage collection vehicle and sustained serious injuries.
Sanskriti was rushed to Lokmanya Hospital in Nigdi for treatment. However, doctors examined her and declared her dead, preliminary information shared by police stated.
Following the incident, police detained the garbage collection vehicle along with its driver, Rahul Pralhad Chavan, 28, a resident of Sane Chowk, Chikhali, and Raju Kumar Gaikwad, 38, a resident of Rajnagar, Otascheme, Nigdi, who was accompanying him.
Police said action to register a case against the driver and the accompanying person for their alleged role in the incident is underway.
