Pimpri-Chinchwad, 30th October 2026: A chief engineer of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 19,000 in connection with a Rs 38 lakh tender in the Water Supply Department, has been remanded to one day of police custody by a Pimpri court on Friday.

The accused, identified as Pramod Sudhakar Ombhase (57), a resident of Pradhikaran in Nigdi, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday following a complaint filed by a 57-year-old contractor. During the verification process, the ACB established that Ombhase had allegedly demanded the bribe.

Ombhase was produced before the court on Friday, where the ACB sought three days of police custody. The agency informed the court that it needed to collect voice samples of the accused and verify his voice against the recorded conversation between him and the complainant. Investigators also want to ascertain whether other officials or employees were involved in the alleged bribery.

However, the court granted one day of police custody. Ombhase will be produced before the court again on Saturday.

Assets Worth Rs 2.19 Crore Unearthed

During a search of Ombhase’s three-storey bungalow in Nigdi, the ACB reportedly found cash worth Rs 1.25 lakh, 25 tolas of gold jewellery and three cars. Including the bungalow, the total value of the assets was estimated at Rs 2.19 crore, said ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Satish Walke.
