Pune: 26-Year-Old Woman Lawyer Killed After Truck Rams Scooter In Dighi; Driver Arrested
Pune, 14th September 2026: A 26-year-old woman lawyer was killed after a speeding heavy vehicle rammed into her scooter from behind in Dighi on Friday evening. The deceased, Sakshi alias Dolly Chaubey, had started practising law around one-and-a-half years ago and was pursuing an LLM alongside her practice.
According to Dighi police, Sakshi regularly travelled to Wajajinagar and Pimpri courts for legal work. On Friday evening, she was riding her TVS Jupiter (MH 14 MX 3336) from Godown Chowk towards Alankapuram Chowk when a speeding truck (MH 14 KA 8677) hit her from behind near R.K.L. School.
Sakshi fell onto the road and came under the wheels of the truck. She sustained serious injuries and was rushed to YCM Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The truck driver fled the spot after the accident but was later traced and arrested by the police. He has been identified as Pramod Dilip Chavan (29), a resident of Nirgudi in Haveli.
Sakshi lived with her family at Gulmohar Nexus Society in Charholi. Her father, Dinesh Chaubey, is a senior officer with a private company, while her mother, Diksha Chaubey, is a homemaker. Sakshi was their only child.
She had recently begun building her career in law and was pursuing an LLM at a college in Pune while continuing her legal practice. Her family had pinned hopes on her future, but the accident cut short her aspirations.
Her uncle, Umesh Chaubey (44), a resident of Kalewadi, lodged a complaint with Dighi police. Police have registered a case against Chavan under Sections 106(1), 125(b) and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Musale is investigating the case.
Sakshi’s body was handed over to her family after a postmortem on Saturday, following which her last rites were performed in a sombre atmosphere.
