Pune : Man Held For Duping Five With Fake PCMC Job Offers, Appointment Letters
Pimpri Chinchwad, 15th September 2026: A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly duping five people of Rs 1,14,112 by promising them jobs in the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) water supply department and preparing fake documents and appointment letters.
The accused was detained by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch from Bhosari. Police said he had previously been booked for allegedly cheating several people of more than Rs 22 lakh on the pretext of providing them affordable houses under the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA).
The accused has been identified as Pratik Rajesh Dhaije (26), a resident of Chakrapani Vasahat in Bhosari and originally from Akkalkot in Solapur district.
Police said the Anti-Extortion Cell received information on Saturday (September 12) that Dhaije was allegedly cheating people by promising them jobs. The team contacted the concerned individuals and conducted an inquiry.
The investigation revealed that five people had allegedly been lured with promises of jobs in the PCMC water supply department. Fake documents and appointment letters were reportedly prepared as part of the fraud. A case was registered at the Bhosari police station on Sunday (September 13).
During the investigation, police traced Dhaije to the Dhawade Vasti area of Bhosari and detained him. Police said they also found that a case had been registered against him in 2025 at Bhosari police station for allegedly collecting Rs 22,41,760 from several people on the pretext of arranging affordable houses through MHADA.
Police have appealed to citizens to remain cautious of people promising jobs, houses or other benefits in exchange for money and not to fall for such offers.
Dhaije has been handed over to Bhosari police for further investigation.
The action was carried out by a team from the Anti-Extortion Cell comprising senior police inspector Rajendra Patil and police personnel Pradeep Pote, Pradeep Godambe and Kiran Jadhav, under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohidas Pawar and Assistant Commissioner Sachin Kadam.
