PMC Sets Up 69 Artificial Tanks, 648 Iron Tanks Across City

Pune, 18th September 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has made arrangements across the city for the immersion of Ganesh idols on the fifth and seventh days of the festival and on Anant Chaturdashi. Ganesh idols have been installed in homes as well as at public mandals across the city.

The immersion of five-day Ganpati idols will take place on Friday. The PMC has made arrangements at various locations through its regional offices.

According to the civic body’s plan, immersion facilities have been provided at 37 locations along the river, including 35 ghats. In addition, 69 artificial immersion tanks have been set up at 38 locations. As many as 648 iron tanks will be placed at 281 locations across the city.

The PMC has also set up 241 centres for collecting Ganesh idols for donation. The arrangements are being coordinated by the Solid Waste Management Department.

The immersion ghats covered under the arrangements include Amruteshwar, Pulachi Wadi, Nataraj Cinema, Omkareshwar, Vriddheshwar, Garware College, Panchaleshwar, Ashtabhuja Temple, Sangam, Vitthal Temple, Bapu Ghat, Thosar Paga, Chima Udyan, Yerwada, Dattawadi and Warje crematorium ghat.

Fire brigade personnel and trained lifeguards will be deployed at the ghats. A total of 90 lifeguards will work in three shifts, while another 30 will be kept on standby at the Central Fire Brigade station for emergencies. Additional ropes, life jackets and other rescue equipment have also been provided.

328 Containers for Nirmalya Collection
The PMC’s Solid Waste Management Department has also made separate arrangements to prevent waste generation and river pollution following idol immersions.

For nirmalya collection, 328 kalash and containers will be placed at 274 locations across the city.
