Pune: Dengue, Swine Flu Cases Rise In Pimpri Chinchwad; Civic Health Department On Alert
Pimpri Chinchwad, 22nd September 2026: A rise in communicable diseases has put the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) health department on alert, with 45 dengue and 44 swine flu cases reported in the first 20 days of September.
Five malaria cases have also tested positive during the period, prompting the civic health machinery to step up preventive measures.
According to the civic health department, swine flu cases have increased sharply compared with last year. While no swine flu cases were reported in September last year, 44 cases have been detected this month. Dengue cases have also doubled compared with the corresponding period last year.
Pimpri, Kharalwadi, Vallabhnagar, Sant Tukaramnagar, Bhosari, Sangvi, Wakad and Hinjewadi have reported a higher number of dengue and swine flu cases. Officials attributed the spread to dense population, stagnant water and changes in weather conditions.
Dengue is spread by mosquitoes, while swine flu is caused by the H1N1 virus and spreads through respiratory droplets. The civic body has therefore launched separate drives to contain the two diseases.
For dengue prevention, teams are conducting door-to-door container surveys, spraying insecticides and carrying out fogging operations. A separate isolation ward has been set up at YCM Hospital for swine flu patients.
The civic body has appealed to citizens to avoid crowded places, wear masks and wash their hands frequently to reduce the risk of infection.
