Pune: Afghan Student Detained For Staying Illegally In Pimpri Chinchwad After Visa Expiry
Pimpri Chinchwad, 30th September 2026: The Anti-Terrorism Branch (ATB) and Foreigners Registration Office (FRO) of the Pimpri Chinchwad police jointly detained an Afghan student who was allegedly staying in the city without valid documents after the expiry of his visa and residential permit.
The student, identified as Danyar Hussain (26), a native of Afghanistan, is being processed for deportation, police said.
According to police, the ATB and FRO teams launched a search based on technical analysis and information from confidential sources. Police Inspector Vikas Raut of the ATB received information that Hussain was staying at Pebbles Urbania Society in Siddharthnagar, Bavdhan Budruk.
On September 28, the police, with assistance from Bavdhan police, conducted a raid at the premises and detained Hussain.
During questioning and verification of his documents, police found that Hussain was pursuing an MA in Economics (second year) at Modern College in Shivajinagar. However, he had reportedly been absent from college since January 2026.
Further verification revealed that his student visa and residential permit had expired on January 31, 2026, following which he continued to stay in India, police said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Dheeraj Patil said owners of flats, bungalows, hotels or rooms where foreign nationals stay are required to register their details with the FRO by submitting a C-Form.
Police said the action against Hussain was taken as part of verification and enforcement measures concerning foreign nationals staying in the city.
