MPSC Students’ Protest Temporarily Put on Hold After Meeting With CM Fadnavis; Government Assures Action on Key Demands

Pune, 30th September 2026: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis held a detailed meeting with a delegation of MPSC aspirants on Wednesday and discussed their demands concerning recruitment, examination procedures and action against officials of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).

Following the meeting, the students said the government had given a positive response to their demands and announced that their proposed October 2 protest would be temporarily postponed.

One of the key demands concerned action against former and serving MPSC chairpersons and members under Article 317 of the Constitution. According to the government’s assurance, a judicial inquiry will be conducted within three months, after which further action will be taken based on its findings.

The government also assured the students that the MPSC Secretary would be transferred immediately.

On the examination system, the government clarified that MPSC examinations will continue to be conducted offline. It was also stated that no change in the examination system would be introduced without consultations with the various student groups.

A major assurance concerned recruitment numbers. The government said preparations were underway to fill vacancies on a scale that would surpass previous records. According to the information shared with the students, recruitment rules in several departments had not been revised since 1960, which had restricted the number of vacancies that could be filled.

Rules for around 60 per cent of departments have now been prepared, while work on the remaining departments is underway. The government has also accepted the students’ demand for an increase in vacancies for the January 3 Group C examination, with the increase expected to be significant.

The government further proposed a single-card system under which candidates would be able to appear for multiple examinations. The card would be made available at an affordable cost. A mechanism will also be developed to reduce the need for candidates to repeatedly submit the same documents during recruitment processes.

Another major decision was to announce vacancies for three years together. The government also said recruitment for posts expected to fall vacant due to retirement would begin one year in advance. The complete recruitment programme is expected to be finalised within one month.

Following the assurances received during the meeting, MPSC aspirants announced that the October 2 agitation would be temporarily suspended.

The developments come amid continuing concerns among MPSC aspirants over recruitment vacancies, examination procedures and the functioning of the commission.
