Pune, 13th October 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has directed utility companies to submit excavation proposals for the route of an international cycling competition scheduled for January by October 31. No excavation will be permitted along the route after the deadline, and the roads will remain off-limits for excavation for the next five years after the roadworks are completed.

A joint meeting was held in the presence of Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Diwate with the PMC road department and representatives of Maharashtra Natural Gas Ltd (MNGL), Dinesh Engineers and other concerned companies to review pending proposals for laying utility lines along the cycling route.

The civic administration has asked the companies to explore alternative alignments to ensure that excavation does not obstruct the competition route. They have been directed to conduct joint site inspections with PMC officials, assess the technical feasibility of carrying out work through the road’s existing alignment or laying cables along the opposite side, and submit suitable proposals.

The PMC has also instructed companies to increase manpower to complete pending excavation and restoration work at the earliest. Applicants must conduct joint site inspections with civic officials immediately and submit their work plans within a day.

Excavation permissions will be granted only in exceptional cases until October 31. The five-year restriction thereafter is intended to ensure that the roads remain in good condition during the defect liability period. Companies are also laying cross-ducts at necessary locations to accommodate utility lines and avoid future road excavations.
