Dehu Road, 15th October 2026: The Bengali community came together for an evening of traditional food, cultural exchange and celebration as Bangiya Krishti Parishad (BKP), the trust managing Kali Bari Dehu Road, organised Anando Mela on Wednesday, marking the beginning of its Durga Puja festivities.

Bangiya Krishti Parishad manages Kali Bari Dehu Road and has been organising Durga Puja celebrations for 53 years. The organisation is led by Chairman Bikas Dey, President Amit Mukherjee, Vice President Ganesh Banik, Secretary Somen Pramanik and Joint Secretary Naveen Das.

The event featured homemade delicacies and traditional Bengali favourites prepared by community members, offering visitors a taste of Bengal’s culinary heritage while encouraging families to participate in the celebrations.

This year marks the 53rd year of Durga Puja at Kali Bari Dehu Road. The celebrations will showcase Purulia Chhau, the traditional masked dance form from Purulia in West Bengal, as their central theme.

Amit Mukherjee, president of Bangiya Krishti Parishad, said the annual celebrations were an opportunity to bring people together through shared cultural traditions.

“Anando Mela is about celebrating happiness, togetherness and the spirit of our community. It gives our members an opportunity to share homemade food and traditional Bengali delicacies with others. Through Durga Puja, we want to keep our traditions alive and welcome people from different backgrounds to experience Bengal’s culture,” Mukherjee said.

Bikas Dey, chairman of Bangiya Krishti Parishad, said the Purulia Chhau theme would highlight an important part of Bengal’s folk heritage.

“This year, as we celebrate the 53rd year of Durga Puja at Kali Bari Dehu Road, we have chosen Purulia Chhau as our theme to showcase the richness of Bengal’s traditional art forms. The colourful masks, expressive movements and distinctive style of Chhau reflect a cultural heritage that deserves to be shared with a wider audience. We hope visitors will learn more about this folk tradition while enjoying the festivities,” Dey said.

Five Days of Durga Puja Celebrations
Following Anando Mela on October 15, the festivities will continue with the inauguration and Sasthi Puja on October 16. The subsequent days will feature Saptami, Ashtami and Navami rituals, along with Maha Bhog and cultural programmes.

The celebrations will conclude with Dussehra and the immersion of the Durga idol on October 21.

For the Bengali community, Durga Puja is both a religious observance and a time for families and friends to come together. At Kali Bari Dehu Road, the annual celebrations also provide an opportunity for people from different communities to experience Bengali traditions, cuisine, music and art.

Through its religious, cultural and social activities, Bangiya Krishti Parishad has continued to bring devotees and residents together for the annual festival.
