Pune, 29th October 2026: A fire broke out in the parking area of the four-storey Kunal Market building near Chaphekar Chowk in Chinchwad around 2.10 am on Thursday, damaging 12 two-wheelers, two cars and a bicycle. One man sustained minor burn injuries and was taken to Talera Hospital for treatment, police said.

Four fire engines were deployed to the spot and the blaze was completely extinguished. Fire brigade personnel also rescued residents who were reportedly stranded on the upper floors of the building, averting a possible tragedy.

According to the Chinchwad police, the fire was reported at around 1.59 am. Firefighters from the main fire station, Pradhikaran sub-fire station and Thergaon sub-fire station rushed to the spot and launched firefighting operations.

Fireman Vivek Patil said the team used hose reels to douse the flames and brought the situation under control. The fire primarily affected vehicles parked in the building’s parking area.

A preliminary assessment suggests that a short circuit may have triggered the fire. However, the exact cause is yet to be established, and a possible electrical fault involving an electric vehicle is also being examined.

Police personnel, including officers from the Chinchwad and Nigdi police stations, and staff from the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) were present at the spot.

The fire has been completely extinguished, and the situation is under control. Further investigation is underway.
