Pune: ‘Why Should Moshi Bear the City’s Waste Burden?’ Residents Warn of Agitation
Moshi, 30th October 2026: Residents of Moshi, Chikhali and Dudulgaon have threatened a major protest at the main entrance of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) garbage depot in Moshi on November 5, demanding its immediate closure or decentralisation across the civic body’s regional offices.
The decision was taken at a meeting of villagers and housing society members at Shri Nageshwar Maharaj temple in Moshi on Thursday, following mounting concerns over the health and environmental impact of the landfill.
Residents alleged that the entire city’s garbage was being dumped in Moshi, stalling the area’s development and affecting its image. They claimed that methane emissions from the depot had increased respiratory and skin ailments, while foul odour had spread across a five-kilometre radius.
They also alleged that hazardous slurry from the depot was being discharged directly into the Indrayani river, worsening water pollution and affecting animals in the area.
Residents said the growing volume of waste, coupled with pollution and the stench, had made the area less attractive to homebuyers and affected construction businesses. This, they claimed, was hampering the area’s economic and infrastructure development.
Thousands of residents, traders and representatives of local organisations from Moshi, Chikhali and Dudulgaon are expected to join the November 5 protest, putting pressure on the civic administration to address their concerns.
