Pune, 7th November 2026: Electric vehicle (EV) registrations in Pune have increased by more than 62% during the festive season this year, indicating growing consumer preference for electric mobility. A total of 2,420 electric vehicles were registered between October 27 and November 5, 2026, compared to 1,490 registrations during the corresponding 10-day period from October 9 to 18, 2025.

According to data from the Regional Transport Office (RTO), electric vehicles accounted for around 9% of total new vehicle registrations during the corresponding festive period last year. This share has increased to 17.4% this year, nearly doubling in a year. The figures indicate that more than one in every six new vehicles registered in Pune is now electric.

The trend is particularly evident in the two-wheeler segment, which accounts for the largest share of EV registrations. Electric two-wheeler registrations increased from 1,089 last year to 1,899 this year, registering a growth of nearly 74%. Their share of total two-wheeler registrations also rose from 10.7% to 20.5%, indicating that one in every five newly registered two-wheelers is now electric. Two-wheelers accounted for nearly 78% of all EV registrations during the period.

Electric car registrations also witnessed an increase, rising from 350 last year to 429 this year, marking a growth of approximately 23%. The share of electric cars in total car registrations increased from 8.3% to 13.2% during the same period.

The registration figures also point to growing acceptance of electric mobility across different vehicle categories, extending beyond personal vehicles to passenger and goods transportation. Rising fuel costs and increasing awareness of environmentally friendly mobility options appear to be encouraging buyers to consider electric vehicles as an alternative to conventional petrol and diesel vehicles.

With EV registrations increasing across segments, the festive-season figures suggest a gradual shift in consumer preferences in Pune. Further expansion of charging infrastructure and improved access to charging facilities could accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in the coming years.
