Pune: PMC warns people of Rs 500 fine or FIR for not wearing mask

Pune, June 24, 2020: The Pune municipal corporation (PMC) has decided to take punitive action against those who do not wear masks while moving in public places despite the increase in corona infection. The COVID19 cases has reached 13,000 in the city.

 

Those who do not use the mask will be fined Rs 500 and in worse scenarios, FIR will be registered as per the provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The PMC has given the authority to take action to the heads of ward offices, deputy heads of the health department, sanitation inspectors and instructed them to take immediate action.

Under the Epidemic Diseases Act, measures have been taken by the PMC at various levels to prevent the spread of Coronavirus. Under this, it has been made mandatory for the citizens to use the mask when leaving the house. They have to wear a mask in public places, government or private offices. It is compulsory to use a mask until the outbreak of corona infection has stopped. Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad has issued an order in this regard.

Accordingly, Commissioner Shekhar Gaikwad has given the authority to take such action at the local ward office level. A fine of Rs 500 should be levied on those who do not use the mask or action should be taken as per Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code, the commissioner said.
