Pune: BJP leader arrested in cheating, fraud case

Pune, June 24, 2020: Kondhwa police station has arrested Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and builder Ratnakar Pawar, a resident of Nashik, on charges of fraudulently taking money in the name of various projects and not investing in the project. Pawar was arrested by the police after the court rejected his anticipatory application.

Kondhwa police were searching for Pawar after a three-judge bench rejected his pre-arrest bail on June 2 after the Supreme Court resumed its work after the lockdown. Senior police inspector of Kondhwa police station Vinayak Gaikwad said that Pawar and Ashok Ahire have been arrested. Mohaddis Mohammad Farooq Bakhala, a resident of NIBM Road, Kondhwa, has lodged a complaint in this regard.

Bakhala owns a tours and travels and a construction company. Dastagir Patel is his partner and he was introduced to the other accused by Anis Memon in February 2017. He said that investing money in Ratnakar Pawar-owned Girna Infra Project in Nashik and other places would bring a lot of benefits. By signing an agreement with them, the accused have defrauded them of Rs 1 crore 64 lakh 16 thousand 387 by offering them lucrative returns. Kondhwa police have earlier arrested some people in this case.
