Pune: Marijuana Worth Rs 65 Lakh Seized By Customs Dept
Pune, October 5, 2020: Officers of Pune customs on the basis of specific intelligence regarding trafficking of marijuana (ganja) from remote locations of Andhara Pradesh to various districts of Maharashtra detected a truck and have seized 412 kg of marijuana worth Rs 65 lakh.
Vaishali Patange, Joint Commissioner, Pune Customs, said that the Eicher truck (MH 13 CU 3192) was detected near a dhaba on Naldurg – Solapur road around 8 am on 4th October (Sunday). “The truck was loaded with 412 kg of Ganja, packed in 206 plastic packets, concealed in a special cavity on the roof of the vehicle, which was detected by the officers after a rigorous search of the vehicle. While the officers were engaged in 100% road checking on the suspected route at a zeroed down location, it was noticed that the vehicle had been abandoned with engine in running condition at distance of about 500 meters before the said place. The value of Ganja is Rs 65 lakh (approx) and total value of seized goods including the vehicle amounts to Rs 85 lakh”, Patange informed.
Pr Commissioner (Pune Customs) PK Behera said that Pune customs is conducting necessary verification and follow up investigation to trace out the suspected persons by examining all aspects to apprehend the traffickers.
