Rajasthan: Railway Postal Worker Honey Trapped By Pakistan’s ISI, Accused Sent Army Letters’ Photo

Pune/Jaipur, 10th September 2021: In a Joint operation by the Military Intelligence (MI) unit of the Pune-based Army’s Southern Command and  Rajasthan Police State Intelligence of Jaipur on Thursday nabbed a Railway Postal Service worker for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI.

The arrested accused has been identified as Bharat Bawri (27), a native of Khedapa in Jodhpur district, Rajasthan. He had joined multi-tasking staff (MTS) with Railway Postal Service three years ago.

An FIR has been registered against him for offence under the Official Secrets Act, 1923.

Rajasthan Police DG (Intelligence) Umesh Mishra said that the accused was in communication with Pakistan based Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) lady agent and was passing information by clicking photographs of defence-related official letters.

According to police, Bharat is working as an MTS worker in the sorting hub of Railway Postal Services. He came in contact with the agent five months ago on Facebook Messenger and subsequently connected over WhatsApp. They exchanged audio and video calls where the ISI agent convinced the suspect by posing as a nursing officer posted in Port Blair. She told him that she is preparing for the MBBS and that she wants to help her relative get posted in the Army unit in Jaipur. She trapped Bharat by promising to meet him in Jaipur. The accused started sending her photos of defence related letters, documents.

According to officials, after getting the information he was detained and questioned jointly by Central and State agencies at the central interrogation centre, Jaipur. The accused accepted sharing the number of army related letters to the Pakistani agent. The suspect also accepted activating an Indian WhatsApp account to the lady agent of ISI for her use for spying. The defence related letters and photos have been recovered from his mobile phone.
