Monsoon Preparedness: PMC to Set Up Over 100 CCTV Cameras on Riverbanks Across Pune
Pune, 5th June 2026: In a move to strengthen flood preparedness during the monsoon season, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will install more than 100 CCTV cameras along the banks of the Mula and Mutha rivers. The project is expected to be completed by June 30, according to Ganesh Sonune, head of the PMC’s Disaster Management Cell.
Flooding in the Mula and Mutha rivers during periods of heavy rainfall frequently affects several low-lying areas of the city. Localities along Sinhagad Road are particularly vulnerable to flooding from the Mutha River, while parts of the central city and Deccan Gymkhana also face flood risks. Similarly, areas such as Bopodi, Vishrantwadi, and parts of Mundhwa-Keshavnagar near the confluence of the two rivers are prone to waterlogging and flooding.
To enhance monitoring and improve disaster response, the PMC will erect poles at 26 locations along the riverbanks and install over 100 CCTV cameras. The cameras will provide real-time visuals of water levels and flood conditions, enabling authorities to respond swiftly during emergencies.
Apart from flood monitoring, the cameras will also be used throughout the year to keep a watch on illegal dumping of debris and garbage into riverbeds.
The CCTV cameras will be installed at key locations, including Tilak Bridge, Bhide Bridge, Kelkar Ghat, Panchaleshwar Ghat, S.M. Joshi Bridge, Rajaram Bridge, Karvenagar Crematorium, Warje Tapodham, Shivane-Nanded Bridge, Dangle Bridge, the Tadiwala Road slum area, Phulenagar, Shantinagar, Sainath Nagar in Wadgaon Sheri, Mundhwa-Keshavnagar Bridge, Harris Bridge in Bopodi, and Adarsh Nagar, among other locations.
PMC officials said the initiative is aimed at improving flood surveillance, enabling timely warnings, and enhancing coordination among disaster management agencies during the monsoon.
