A call from Ishanya
‘A call from Ishanya’ organized by the Symbiosis Ishanya Cultural and Educational Centre (SICEC) threw light on various aspects of the life at North East (NE) Indian states.
The program aims at bridging gap between people from the area and other parts of the country.
Mitra Phuken eminent Author, Translator and columnist from Assam graced the occasion. She stressed on importance of such events in country to bridge gap between NE and other parts of the country.
Phuken said, “NE has wast diversity and it is being spread across the country by people who are migrating to other parts of the country. Also students from other parts also come to NE for studies and take away culture and other diversity of food, fashion, clothing and many more things. These youths are becoming ‘change agents’ who not only take way the culture but also bridge gap between the two different people with different traditions.”
Shirish Sahasrabudhe, Director of SICEC said, “North east states has unity in diversity but its culture is not known to citizens of the mainland India. These seven sisters are part of India and good example of unity in diversity which we should respect. This event focuses on introducing their culture to people here, this will help to bridge the gap between people from NE and mainland India.”
The evening saw various performances by students from NE states. These students also shared detailed about the food, tourist places through presentations.
Dance performances depicted culture along with the fashion show exhibiting various clothing of NE people. Presentations also introduce audience about the wedding process and other rituals of the NE people.
