When the British left, everyone believed we had achieved freedom. Freedom from tyranny. Freedom from being made helpless. Freedom from divisiveness and hate. With this kindling of hope, India adopted the Constitution on 26 January 1950.

Today, 68 years after that momentous moment we are left reeling with that same feeling of helplessness. On Friday the 19th January, our respected constitution that freed us from this tyranny was blatantly disregarded and the very spirit with which it was drafted was auctioned for a cheap price.

The Chief Election Commissioner, a very important constitutional body, disregarded the spirit of justice and outrageously disqualified 20 AAP MLA’s without even a hearing – just like the British did with our freedom fighters. It was the height of connivance when an out going CEC passed and sent the disqualification order on Friday to the President. And the president who is the safeguard of our constitution, approved the order without even questioning. For over two years, 20 AAP MLA’s kept requesting the CEC to hear their side, but they were absolutely side-lined and finally blind-sided.

It reminded me of my own helplessness in front that passport officer who would not clear my application unless I bribed him. It used to burn me to the core but I was helpless then. That is, till AAP stood up for my rights and your rights, to change the system. Like Arvind says, “All good people have to come together in this fight. It is the fire within us that can only change the fate of this country.”

The Outreach Team is organizing a donation drive to show solidarity with the AAP’s 20 brave hearts and lend our voice against this disqualification.

Kindly, join this solidarity drive by making a donation of Rs 100 today.
