Ability To Accept And Meet Any Challenge Is Innate In Women: Sumitra Mahajan
Pune, 24th June 2021: A two-day virtual conference of Rotary International District 3131 was organised by the Rotary Club of Pune Parvati recently. President Maya Phatak introduced all the dignitaries.
Eminent speakers like former Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Former Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Pakistan and China Gautam Bambawale, Mythologist and illustrator Devdatta Pattanaik, India’s First Double Amputee Driving Licence Holder, Professional Car Racer, Vikram Agnihotri virtually participated in the conference.
The conference was inaugurated with a cultural program. The work done under Rotary throughout the year was reviewed at this time. In her speech, District Governor Rashmi Kulkarni said that the annual conference was named ‘Atkepar’ due to the successful completion of almost impossible tasks during the period 2020-21.
Speaking on Women empowerment and politics, Sumitra Mahajan said that the “ability to accept and meet any challenge is innate in women”.
Describing her journey from an ordinary housewife to the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, she said, “I had lost the first election which was a very tough battle but my confidence grew that I can work in this field. My ability to prove myself by accepting challenges has enabled me to succeed in politics.”
Gautam Bambwale spoke on India – China relations, Devdatta Pattnaik spoke on Why Ramayan and Mahabharat relevant to Modern Times and Vikram Agnihotri spoke on how to overcome disability.
The attendants were guided by the former Rotary International President Kalyan Banerjee, former Rotary International President and Trustee Head K R Ravindran, R I Director Dr Bharat Pandya, newly elected R I Director Mahesh Kotbagi. Also, PDG Vinay Kulkarni and all the members of the Rotary Club of Pune Parvati were present in person. The vote of thanks was given by Mukesh Supanekar, Director of the conference and the conference hosted by Rahul Kshirsagar.
