Pune : Activists from Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) clashed with Pune police while they were protesting against NCP’s Jitendra Awhad at Fergusson College on Wednesday.

Police resorted to mild lathicharge to disperse the crowd. Awhad was safely escorted out of campus.

Awhad had gone to meet the college principal Dr Ravindrasinh Pardeshi who had written a letter to local Deccan Gymkhana police station asking for ‘legal action’ against the students who raised ‘anti-national’ slogans on Tuesday. Some students claiming to be followers of ideology of Dr B R Ambedkar had clashed with ABVP activists for not taking permission from the college administration and organizing a talk on ‘Truth of Feb 9 event at JNU’.

A day after, the principal withdrew his letter saying there were ‘some’ typing mistakes.
