Action Taken Against More Than 900 Autorickshaw Drivers In Pune

Pune, 11th September 2021: The Pune City Traffic Police and the Regional Transport Department (RTO) have taken stern action against the autorickshaw drivers.

More than 900 autorickshaw drivers have been prosecuted for violating the rules by not using licenses, permit badges and using rickshaws for more than 15 years.

While the incident of rape of a minor girl in the Pune station area is fresh, after the kidnapping and rape of a six-year-old girl the question has been raised against the safety of women in the city. In one incident, the autorickshaw driver was involved along with the other accused, while in the other incident, the autorickshaw driver himself was involved. Against this backdrop, Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta has ordered stern action against those who are violating the rules.

Accordingly, the joint meeting was held on Thursday in the presence of DCP (Traffic) Rahul Shrirame and Regional Transport Officer Ajit Shinde.

The traffic police have taken action against 740 autorickshaw drivers while the RTO has taken action against 177 autorickshaw drivers. The action was taken for violating the rules by not having a license and permit, using rickshaws for more than 15 years.
