Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Testing to Begin at ARAI’s Pune Centers
Pune, 3rd September 2025: The Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) has taken a major step to enhance the autonomous safety and efficiency of vehicles in India. To improve road safety, ARAI has developed advanced testing technology for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) at its Takwe and Chakan facilities.
The ARAI center, operating under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India, has been developing this state-of-the-art technology hub on a 20-acre site in Takwe, Maval taluka, near Talegaon, for several years. With over 90% of the work completed, the ADAS technology system is scheduled for inauguration on December 11, in the presence of dignitaries from the automotive and technology sectors from India and abroad. The facility will allow continuous testing of vehicles under real-world conditions.
ARAI Director Dr. Reji Mathai said:
“Day by day, technology in the transport sector is evolving. To ensure the autonomous safety of vehicles and drivers, extensive research has been carried out in recent years. Considering traffic congestion, accidents, and other road challenges in the country, it is essential to assess a vehicle’s ability to handle these situations and implement safe travel solutions.”
Through rigorous trials and tests, ARAI aims to provide safer vehicles and enhanced travel experiences. The Takwe and Chakan centers will serve as modern testing hubs, supporting India’s automobile industry with world-class facilities and helping improve road safety and driver assistance through ADAS technologies.
The ADAS Expo, organized by Airoya company on December 11, will bring together leading vehicle manufacturers, technology companies, and researchers. Participants will include Honda, BMW, Volvo, Mahindra, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Bajaj, NXP, ZF, Valeo, and others. The event will feature vehicle testing, technical discussions, and presentations of emerging automotive technologies.
Battery Testing Facility at Chakan
Under the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, a cylinder testing and certification center has been established to allow local manufacturers to test and certify their products. The center also includes a High Energy Impact Test Facility and several other advanced testing facilities.
To ensure the safety of electric vehicles in India, ARAI is in the process of setting up a dedicated battery safety testing facility at its Chakan center, aligned with national and international standards.
