Pune, 19th November 2023: In celebration of its platinum jubilee year, the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) is set to receive the prestigious President’s Colour from Droupadi Murmu, the President of India and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, on December 1, 2023.

Recognized as a premier establishment within the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) and a leading medical college in the country, AFMC’s 75 years of exemplary service will be honored with this esteemed award.

Renowned globally for its ethos and the highest standards of medical training, AFMC stands as the fountainhead of medical education in the AFMS. The college not only imparts top-notch medical education but also fosters the holistic development of medical cadets through diverse sports and extracurricular activities.

Graduates from AFMC, known as medical cadets, are commissioned into the Army, Navy, and Air Force. Their unwavering commitment as officers and doctors extends beyond the borders, addressing the healthcare needs of Armed Forces personnel and their families both at home and on international missions. The alumni of AFMC have made significant contributions to healthcare delivery and research, serving in various reputed national and international healthcare institutions.

The President’s Colour, also referred to as ‘Rashtrapati ka Nishaan,’ is the highest honor bestowed upon any military unit. The ceremony, scheduled to take place at the Capt Devashish Sharma Kirti Chakra Parade Ground at AFMC, will be attended by senior dignitaries and officials from the Central and State governments, as well as the Armed Forces. Notable veterans, including Ex Directors & Commandants and Ex Dean and Deputy Commandants, will grace the occasion.

The highlight of the ceremonial parade will be the presence of lady medical officers leading the four contingents of the Armed Forces Medical Services personnel in the Army, Navy, and the Air Force—an embodiment of women empowerment within the AFMS.

The grand ceremony will also feature the release of a special cover and stamp, along with a commemorative coin, by the President. Additionally, the planned e-inauguration of ‘Prajna,’ the Armed Forces Center for Computational Medicine, will position AFMC among leading global institutes engaged in cutting-edge healthcare research using Artificial Intelligence.
