Pune, 18th March 2025: In a disturbing revelation, Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has been embroiled in controversy once again after liquor bottles were discovered in the girls’ hostel. This incident comes on the heels of previous instances involving marijuana and tobacco products found on campus, highlighting a growing concern about substance abuse and lack of effective supervision within the SPPU’s hostels.

According to Shiva Barole of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a student residing in the hostel had reportedly informed the hostel authorities multiple times about alleged illicit activities, but no action was taken. The student then allegedly escalated the matter to the university’s top officials, including the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar, through a written complaint. Despite the presence of biometric security systems at the hostel gates, large quantities of liquor and other substances have reportedly been entering the premises, raising concerns about the alleged complicity of hostel staff.

Furthermore, the ABVP has alleged that a male professor entered the girls’ hostel without permission, raising additional concerns about safety and security. The organization has demanded the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate these incidents and has warned of strong protests if strict action is not taken against those responsible. The SPPU administration has faced criticism for its alleged failure to address these issues effectively, leading to repeated incidents that reportedly tarnish the institution’s reputation.
