Air India Express flight from Dubai crashes during landing at Kozhikode, pilot dead

Kozhikode, August 07, 2020: Air India Express flight from Dubai crashed during landing at Jatipura Airport at Kozhikode in Kerala on Friday evening. As per information, the aircraft had a total of 191 passengers and six crew members.

As per information received in this regard, “Pilot Deepak Sathe and two passengers onboard the aircraft died, and 35 injured have been rushed to the hospital.”

It is being said that during the landing, the plane slipped off the runway and went into the valley. Fire tenders and ambulances have been sent to the spot, and rescue operation is on. 15 ambulances transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Sources said that since it was a table top runway, the landing was difficult.

As per a statement released by the Air India, “Air India Express flight IX 1344 operated by B737 aircraft from Dubai to Calicut overshot runway at Kozhikode at 1941 hrs tonight. No fire reported at the time of landing. There are 174 passengers, 10 Infants, two pilots and five cabin crew on board the aircraft. As per the initial reports rescue operations are on and passengers are being taken to hospital for medical care. We will soon share the update in this regard.”

As per information received from sources, the plane was flown in from Dubai at 4.45 pm under the Vande Mataram Mission. At present, no confirmed information has been received about the number of injured and dead.

A statement from the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) in this regard said that the plane broke into two. “Air India Express AIX 1344, B737 Dubai to Calicut, after landing on Runway 10 at 2,000 metres visibility, continued running to the end of runway, and fell down in the valley,” the statement read. The DGCA has ordered a detailed inquiry into the matter.
